I’m a Jersey boy, and now a Texan for more than 15 years, residing with my wife and two dogs in the Dallas area.
Gaming has always been a big part of my life, from the first time I picked up a Pong paddle (yes, THAT Pong), and popped the dice bubble in Trouble, I was always playing something. My first wargame was Tactics II, and still holds a special place in my heart for nostalgia sake. After serving in the Marine Corps, I picked right back up with gaming on my Apple IIe and PC. In the late 90’s and early millennium, I served as editor for the old Xtreme Network, covering video games for the now defunct Mplayer online gaming network. Prior to that, I was a video game reviewer at combatsim.com, covering first person shooters, real-time strategy and armor simulations.
Along the way, I continued to dabble with some board and miniatures games, with the odd RPG wedged in there from time to time, but the bulk of my gaming entertainment continued to be video games. That was until I discovered the mech heavy, combat miniatures game CAV by Reaper Miniatures, in the mid 2000’s. This quickly supplanted Battletech as my mech game of choice, although nothing can match the rich lore of the Battletech universe, in my opinion. After spending a few years as a Black Lightning demo team member for the CAV line, I went on to join the Mil-Net team as a developer, co-authoring one of the game’s supplements, War For Sale, before the line sadly ended its run, and we all moved on to other gaming interests.
For the last three years I was a board game reviewer at Club Fantasci, and for various reasons, felt it was time to step down and share my work on my own space. I’m always keeping an eye out for new games and interesting projects to review, back, and share with readers here. I enjoy many flavors of games, but have a special place in my heart for solitaire games with a military or sci-fi theme, wargames, miniatures, ameritrash and interesting euros.
When not playing board games, I continue to be involved with my deepest gaming passion of hockey, as color commentator for a local professional hockey team.
You can find me pretty easily at conventions, sporting my colorful and cunning hat, so when you do, please come up and say hi!
